The local Sun engineers in Adelaide organised for two ILOM cards to be shipped from spare parts, and once they were installed the machines now boot, and new installs also are bootable.

It's amazing that these machines were allowed to be shipped in a state where you can install the OS but can never boot from it!

I have a similar problem. I have two of those x2270 without ilom. I need to install a fresh OS because I don't want Solaris. Currently they are just sitting there waiting for the ilom to arrive. Very annoying really.
